Attractions
Out and About for Interest
There is a wealth of places to visit around Gulworthy, including the award winning historic market town of Tavistock, with its farmers' market, pannier market and exclusive shops and cafes. Tavistock has its own arts center and cinema, indoor swimming pool, and plenty of welcoming restaurants and bars.
Why not take the breath taking train journey from nearby Gunnislake to Plymouth, a magnificent city with plenty of retail therapy.
The Old Rectory is one of the closest camping parks to the historic Morwellham
Quay, home of the Edwardian Farm, which gives a fascinating insight
of a bygone age in the mining industry. You can also take river cruises
along the Tamar with calstockferry.co.uk. National Trust sites are
a plenty in the area, Buckland
Abbey, Lydford
Gorge and Cotehele
House, Quay and Watermill, to name a few.
Within walking distance of the Old Rectory Camping Park are the Tamar
Trails and of course Dartmoor
National Park to explore, with its rugged beauty there are few
places that can match it.
Out and About for Adventure
For the more adventurous person, there are plenty of attractions within
a mile of the site, such as tree-surfing through
historic woodland, canoeing and
kayaking down the river Tamar, both with the Dartmoor
Outdoor Company. Paintballing with
the Wargame Company, and downhill mountain biking on what is said to
be one of the best courses in the country, run by woodland riders. Course
fishing at its best is available just a short distance away at Milemead
Fisheries.
